Project management

Project description

Almost one third of all apprenticeship contracts in Switzerland are terminated early. This has serious conse- quences for those affected, as well as for society and the economy: one in five teenagers does not find a way back into an apprenticeship, which is shown to lead to lower income, higher risk of unemployment, and total societal costs of over 40 million Swiss francs per year.
But it is not surprising that many young people feel overwhelmed: at the age of 14, they are expected to choose from nearly 250 apprenticeship professions, often without sufficient self-reflection and without targeted pa- rental support. Empirical studies have identified parents as the most important influence in this process, but many are unfamiliar with the wide range of professions or feel overwhelmed themselves.
To address this issue, Stellenmatch was initiated. We combine artificial intelligence with insights from science to guide teenagers and their parents through the career choice process, providing clarity and confidence. Teen- agers go through an innovative interview process in a web application, where each question is generated based on previous answers. Our AI listens to the teenager’s answers, identifies key traits, and compares them with all 250 apprenticeship professions in Switzerland. It then suggests the best matches, with clear, personalized ex- planations and practical recommendations, showing families exactly why a job fits so well. If there is strong alignment, teenagers are connected with potentially interested companies to ensure a successful start into professional life.
The entire process is based on recommendations from representatives of cantonal authorities, school leaders, companies, and parents.

Status/Results

We are already conducting extensive user testing with both teenagers and their parents to validate and refine our solution based on real user feedback and will continue to do so. Building on these insights, we will iterate our current MVP into a market-ready product. Additionally, we aim to collect the first testimonials from early users to support our upcoming marketing campaign. Also, we will complete the formal incorporation of Stellenmatch to establish a solid legal and operational foundation, bringing us closer to our goal of not having to be reliant on external funding.
