Gebert Rüf Stiftung was established by entrepreneur Heinrich Gebert as a science and innovation foundation. Its objective is to promote «Switzerland as a top location for business and as a place to live» (purpose article). As a private funding agency guided by its mission statement «making science effective», it supports entrepreneurial projects which are committed to achieving an impact.

Gebert Rüf Stiftung promotes innovation for the benefit of Switzerland’s economy and society. Its aim is to provide initial funding for application- and outcome-oriented science projects at Swiss universities. A funding strategy based on areas of activity is used to select projects.

With its limited funds Gebert Rüf Stiftung seeks to create impetus by bundling its operations into areas of activity. Programmatic in nature, these areas of activity address different funding priorities, which are usually allocated fixed annual outline budgets that are periodically redefined. The grant-making cluster presently consists of eight active areas of activity.

Gebert Rüf Stiftung sees itself as an effective service provider to the public sector. Subscribing to a contemporary understanding of not-for-profit foundation work, Gebert Rüf Stiftung provides open and transparent information on its grant-making activities, in particular on the projects it supports and the impact of its activities as well as on current developments in Gebert Rüf Stiftung's sphere of operation.
