Project management

Project description

This project develops an eco-friendly superhydrophobic coating that repels water efficiently while avoiding harmful fluorinated compounds (PFAS). Using sustainable materials and a simple application process, the coating offers excellent water resistance, durability, and environmental safety. The innovation provides a sustainable alternative for various industries, combining high performance with reduced ecological impact.

Status/Results

A first proof of concept for a non-fluorinated, sustainable superhydrophobic coating was successfully developed at BFH in 2024. The next phase focuses on improving the nanocomposite formulation using alternative, eco-friendly materials and validating its abrasion resistance, durability, and environmental safety through standardized tests and Life Cycle Assessment. In parallel, preliminary trials with potential customers will be conducted to gather feedback and assess real-world performance. The team will also be strengthened with additional expertise to support further implementation and scale-up activities.
