Project management

Project description

The world is changing and so is Basel. In a time of globalisation, never has it been so important to collaborate in order to address the increasingly challenging issues our world is facing, such as hunger, low access to healthcare and education, planetary boundaries, climate change and environmental distraction. Basel is known as a city that is forward-thinking, a city willing to make a difference, a city inspiring citizens to become representations of a better future. Consciousness about global issues is rising dramatically and sustainability has become a major concern for an increasing number of entrepreneurs and for the population in general. But too often, brilliant individuals or organisations lack the means, the support or the contacts to scale their ideas in order to bring about a positive and measurable impact on our society and the environment, while maintaining economic viability. In addition, information technology changes existing business models and there is a lack of adaptation of technology, especially in sustainable projects.

Impact Hub Basel aims to fill this gap by building an ecosystem that can support local stakeholders, promote exchange and education between those as well as make them technologically competitive and financially sustainable.

What is special about the project?

Impact Hub Basel Candidate is building a home for the local social entrepreneurs & innovators, impactful start-ups, responsible corporations and engaged citizens, where all those players can exchange, cooperate and co-create impact on daily basis.

Our approach is special in its combination, as we aim to provide key vital elements for the impact creation:
- We inspire the local community by conducting ideas & knowledge-sharing exchange events and sessions.
- We connect the impact-makers of all kinds and backgrounds by bringing them together in our co-working space and by creating an environment of co-creation and radical collaboration.
- We enable social entrepreneurs & innovators by providing them with practical tools on in all means sustainable business-making, so they can grow and accelerate. We envision here incubation and acceleration programs for the impactful start-ups & businesses.

We are part of a global network with over 100 open Impact Hubs around the globe. Impact Hub Basel Candidate wants to contribute to this international network by activating and rejuvenation of the relationship of Basel/Switzerland with Germany and France. The relationship is based on the development of future events and programs with different German and French organizations.

Status/Results

We have officially joined the Impact Hub Global Network in May 2018 and are already running several programs to support social entrepreneurs locally and globally. We are also building up our community through monthly events and are planning to open our space in 2019.
