Project description
Groam creates impact by connecting the food waste and plastic pollution challenges. We do that by valorizing agricultural waste and side streams into biodegradable fast disposables like single-use packaging or plant substrate. Our mission is to scale our idea fast to increase our impact.
There is around 30 million tons of plastic foam produced annually. This foam is non-degradable and often ends up in landfill or the ocean. Only a small fraction of such foam can be recycled (9-14%). At Groam, we are working material solutions based on renewable resources, such as highly abundant food waste.
Status/Results
We are currently working on a minimum viable product at scale together with industry. With our MVP, we then plan to acquire our first pilot customers from the plant substrate sector or protective packaging.
Today Groam has a proprietary foaming technology and biodegradable material formulations at hand. We are in the process of implementing our material and technology in an industrial test line setting. To get there, we are using currently a mini-line to help us get faster to scale up.
Our goals are next to building the product at scale, to extend the team. We also want to gain feedback from working with foam manufacturers and end-users leading to later market entry.
