Project management

Project description

Existing shipping solutions in e-commerce produce waste – filling material and cardboard, which needs to be recycled or drown in the trash. Furthermore the volume of the parcels are oversized and use more space in transport then actually needed. With SendMeBag the volume is adjusted to the contents of the package and therefore no filling material is required. Furthermore, SendMeBag saves time when packing and tedious card- board disposal is a thing of the past. Unfortunately, not all goods can be sent with SendMeBag yet, as the cur- rent shipping bag is sensitive to shocks. The team is therefore developing a simple protective mechanism to protect the goods during the transport process and would like to replace disposable cardboard boxes with the reusable shipping bag in future, which releases 83% less CO2 (if used 10 times).

Status/Results

The development of the protection mechanism and coverage of material and labor costs until market launch are made possible, owing to the support provided. Furthermore, the team can test the current prototype with various pilots and integrate it directly into development. The validation of the reusable shipping bag enables the team to adapt the business case to the market and develop a product that online shops can use to make the growing sector more sustainable. In order to capture all aspects of the complex industry, an advisory board consisting of various stakeholders is put together. By carrying out the pilot project (A, B and C customers), the current prototype as well as the protection mechanism can be tested. In this process, the young start-up is founded, which aims to revolutionise e-commerce in a sustainable and affordable way.
