Description du projet

Polishing of metal components is a critical finishing step with many advantages in various industries. Conventional mechanical polishing methods are limited in workpiece geometries and pose a risk of contaminating the surface. As a result, electrochemical polishing is widely used. However, it relies on hazardous chemicals that are risks to both workers and the environment. In addition, it requires preprocessing with other polishing methods and labour-intensive pre- and post-processing. Therefore, our solution is to use plasma electrolytic polishing (PEP). We achieve high-quality surface finishes with sustainable electrolytes that improve safety and reduce environmental impact. Using an electrolyte jet (PEP-Jet), we can selectively polish defined areas on a workpiece. With that, we can treat complex-shaped workpieces and even cavities impossible with other techniques. We can achieve different polishing finishes on the same workpiece and polish only the necessary areas, thus saving energy and time. With our machine, we offer both PEP bath and PEP-Jet processing as a service, combining sustainability, efficiency, and precision in advanced metal finishing.

Etat/résultats intermédiaires

With the support of First Ventures, we have successfully developed and built a machine capable of polishing components using plasma electrolytic polishing (PEP), including both bath and jet configurations. Building on our experience from previous Innosuisse projects, we have developed strong process know-how and are delivering high-quality, reproducible polishing results. We have established stable process parameters for different materials and geometries, enabling us to adapt the technology to a broad range of industrial requirements. We are now transitioning from development to operation and have started offering polishing as a service to our first customers. Initial projects are underway, marking the shift from a research-driven initiative to an active, revenue-generating service business
