Prolonged bed rest often results in muscle atrophy and impaired mobility, particularly in elderly or post-surgical patients. Early mobilisation accelerates recovery, preserves muscle strength, and thus lowers healthcare costs. Standard methods rely on labour-intensive manual assistance, making therapy challenging for both patients and caregivers. Our solution is a lightweight, portable in-bed leg press that enables resistance training without requiring patients to be moved. This device is innovative in its simplicity and supports bedridden individuals and reduces the physical demands on caregivers. Designed for easy use in various clinical settings, this device empowers patients to maintain mobility and independence, ultimately improving their quality of life and optimizing healthcare services.

Our project originated from a direct need identified by physiotherapists at Insel University Hospital, where early trials with a first prototype received positive feedback. Thanks to the provided funding, we were able to build a refined functional prototype that clearly demonstrates the feasibility and potential impact of our concept.
During our successful participation in the be-advanced Challenge program, we secured Letters of Intent with a clinical partner to conduct validation tests and support future medical claims as well as with a potential distributor for future market entry. We are also in contact with potential industrial partners to support further development and production planning.
Building on these achievements, we are now focusing on certification and preparation for market introduction, followed by incorporating in 2026.
