Abstract
Today’s Li-ion batteries are facing several limitations: slow charging, limited lifetime and safety issues, with additional social and environmental negative implications due to their need of lithium and cobalt. Swistor is deveoping a novel energy storage solution to replace rechargeable batteries, based on a carbon nanotube (CNT) supercapacitor. In contrast with a Li-ion battery, our technology is ecologically friendly, exhibits fast charging (10 to 100x faster than traditional battery), extended lifetime and a wide range of operating temperatures without security issues. Moreover, due to the CNT high surface area combined with a smart device design and nanostructuring, our device can store very high energy levels, with all the added advantages of supercapacitors. In addition to the technical performances that are beyond the state of the art, the proposed technology can be scaled-up using clean room fabrication techniques, being capable to address both demands of IoT nodes and of hand held devices, with demonstrated commercial value and large economic impact. Our current objective is to optimize our processes for a cost effective mass production, while minimizing the environmental impact.
Was ist das Besondere an diesem Projekt?
In this project we take advantage of IC standard processes to obtain aligned and nanostructured efficient electrodes significantly increasing energy density compared to conventional supercapacitors. Our design and optimized process enables obtaining dense, ultra fast charging and long lasting energy storage.
Stand/Resultate
We have validated the main technological milestones in a the frame of Bridge and Tec4Impact projects and developed the efficient electrodes and an optimized fabrication process, and are aiming to optimize our indstrial scale processes in the framework of this project enabling us to move towards product industrialization and have a competitive product on the energy storage market in the next 5 years. We aim to incorporate a start-up at the end of the project and establish collaborations with industrial partners for produc industrialization.
